Saints Row 2 PC Setup Guide
Jan 6 2009, 09:58 by Mattze
The official Saints Row 2 blog have released a guide to setting up Saints Row 2 on your PC.
Step 1: Check your video card drivers. (FREE)
I can’t tell you how many people forget to do this, and then wonder why a specific game won’t run properly. Remember that you need to meet our requirements to play the game, or you’ll run into issues. You can find the minimum and recommended requirements HERE. There are many video cards out there, but the best way to update your card is to head to the official websites for each manufacturer. If you do not know what card you have, there are a few ways to find out.
The easiest way is begin by clicking on “Start” >> “Settings” >> “Control Panel”. Now, double click on the “System” icon, then select the “Hardware” tab at the top, followed by “Device Manager”. A new window will pop up, and you should open up the “Display adapters” section. Right there should be the manufacturer and model number of your video card.
NVIDIA owners, head HERE.
ATI owners, head HERE.
Follow the instructions on their website, and the proper selections will allow you to download the appropriate drivers for your system. You will have to restart your system for the changes to take effect.
Step 2: Download Steam and create an account. (FREE)
As has been stated within our forums, you will need to verify that you own a copy of Saints Row 2 PC through Steam. An internet connection is required for this initial verification, but after that you will have the option to “Play Offline”, unless you want to play Co-Op or Multiplayer.
You can download Steam by clicking HERE. Look for the green box on the left side which states “Get Steam Now - Free Download”.
Once installed, you will need to follow their instructions and create a unique username and password.
Step 3: (For Multiplayer/Co-Op) - Download GameSpy and create an account. (FREE)
If you never plan on playing Multiplayer, you will not need to have a GameSpy account. If you do plan on accessing multiplayer, just like with Steam above, you will need to download and install GameSpy so that you can grab the server browser software being used by SR2. GameSpy can be downloaded for free HERE.
Choose the “Ad Supported” selection for the free version. Just like with Steam, you will need to create a unique UserID and Password. I recommend using a different password than you did for Steam, for a little added security.

Xbox 360 and PS3 Saints Row 2 Patches
Dec 23 2008, 08:06 by Mattze
A patch is set to be released for both PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Saints Row 2. The patch aims to fix problems with general gameplay as well as the multiplayer modes. The below list is what will be changed in the Xbox 360 version of the game. Only problems that effect the PS3 version of the game will be included in the patch.
General
- Correcting the co-op mission completion and Achievement issues.
- Implemented protection against disc read errors. May reduce or eliminate crashes experienced by some users.
- Players will no longer be able to change the “Friendly Fire” setting during the Cat & Mouse diversion.
- Players will no longer be able to access the weapon radial menu during the Demolition Derby activity, including all Special Derbies.
- Correcting an issue with scripted attack helicopters not firing missiles during missions.
Multiplayer
- Pipe Bombs will be removed from the default MP weapon loadout when a game begins.
- The default time / score limit for Team Gangsta Brawl will change from “5 min / 25 kills” to “10 min / 50 kills”.
- A 5 second period of invincibility will be applied to respawning players. Once an invulnerable player performs an attack, the effect will be removed. Invulnerability will be displayed by a special health bar indicator.
The patch has been submited to Microsoft and will be released in due course.

Final Badges of the Week
Dec 3 2008, 21:37 by Foxtrot
This week Volition present the long awaited "Arr..." badge. Many people know that to unlock the badge, you would've had to play Saints Row 2 on September 19th, otherwise known as International Talk Like a Pirate Day. With the game being released on October 14th instead of our initial date of August 26th, this badge was far from reach for players who wanted to collect them all, so our team went to work.
Think back to when you play FUZZ in Saints Row 2. What happens during filming for "Battle of the Century"? Pirates versus Ninjas engaged in an amazing battle to the death, which is where the idea for a second way of obtaining the "Arr..." badge was born. I hope to see all of you online December 5th, otherwise known as "Day of the Ninja", to pick up your badge.
Arr... - Play a multiplayer match on December 5th (Day of the Ninja).
Pimp - Play 20 matches.
Famitsu Reviews Saints Row 2 & Japan Release
Dec 2 2008, 17:09 by Mattze
Those who have heard of Famitsu will know they are notorious for controversial and highly critical reviews, so it is a testament to Saints row 2 (or should I say Seintsu Rou 2) that they awarded the game 35 out of 40.
For those interested the game will be released in Japan on the 4th of December for Xbox360 and PS3 platforms.
Community Spotlight

Although there isn't a great deal going on in the Saints Row 2 universe (Aside from Saints Row 2 PC and DLC) the online community is still going strong. SaintsRow2.com have posted an interview with SarDeliac, and active member of the official forums. The interview covers his views on Saints Row 2 as well as his custom character creation skills.
20 Things "Dan Hsu" loves about Saints Row
Nov 11 2008, 12:56 by Mattze
Dan "Shoe" Hsu runs a blog called SoreThumbs and he has written an entry with 20 things he loves about Saints Row 2. They probably aren't my personal favorites but hey, each to their own! To take a few examples from the list;
- No need to lose the cops before entering the “Forgive” station to wipe away your wanted level. Less realistic, sure, but less frustrating, too.
- Lots of mid-mission checkpoints. Thank you.
- Incredible amount of character customization options. My pal Kathleen Sanders ripped up Stilwater with Margaret Cho, while I busted caps with an Ali G lookalike.
- Your customized character is integrated perfectly in the cutscenes. Leads to many hilarious situations if you have the right costumes on.
- A metric shitload of clothing options, thanks to all the clothes stores around the city, including lingerie and costume shops in Stilwater’s giant mall. You can change patterns on shirts, add patches to hats, or dress up like a paintball player, a sexy cat, or a day-glo ninja. It’s up to you.
As usual, great stuff. Head on over to SoreThumbs to read the full article.
